Lex's Birthday weekend

John and the kids planned a fantastic birthday weekend for me, and I had a great time! We left Friday afternoon in blazing sunshine in the convertible with the roof down. Liza had instructed John to pack me a bag of snacks of my favorite things, which included salt and vinegar chips and Toblerone ofcourse! We arrived at the hotel,Renaissance Inn in the Seaport, around 5 and then walked to the North End for dinner. After pizza at Regina's and dessert at Bova's, we waddled thru the new (to us) parks along Atlantic Avenue, back to the hotel. On Saturday we took a guided tour of Boston from the Common, ending at the State House. The guide was great, and even though the tour was very crowded, and it was about 90 degrees, we all enjoyed it and learned tons. After a quick Mexican meal and Margarita in Fanueil Hall, we went to the movies to see the new Harry Potter in 3D. I loved it, probably my favorite Harry Potter movie. After, we went back to the hotel to shower and get ready for dinner at Legal Seafoods Test Kitchen. When we walked into the restaurant, I was VERY surprised to find my parents already at the table. They had driven 5 hours from Maine for my birthday, needless to say I was very touched and happy. We had presents at dinner, and ate and drank plenty, and I had a wonderful evening. My parents were staying at another hotel, but we met them again for breakfast on Sunday morning before they headed back to Maine. After breakfast we took a tour of the Constitution, which we've always wanted to do, and were very impressed with it. I was particularly interested in seeing the cabin woodwork, as my violin is documented as having been made from a cabin door taken. After not finding any birdseye maple, I asked the tour guide about it. He explained that it was very possible that Birdseye maple had been on the boat at one time as the wood inside has been replaced several times. Apparently every time the Constitution prepared for battle, all cabins were torn out and the wood sold. When the ship returned to port, they would be re-built. After the tour, we left to drive back as we were expected at the Foxes for dinner. We had a very nice visit at their house, the Davenports were also there. Nan and Betsy had a cake and presents for Willy and me, as he had just had his birthday as well.

Thank you very much to my wonderful husband for planning such a fantastic 40th birthday weekend for me. It was exactly what I wanted and he made me very happy. I love you very much!!
